Jazz, blues and world music artist Jennifer Scott will perform as a guest of Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) Jazz Studies program on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 pm in the Choral Room (105) of Building 320.
“We’re talking about gorgeous tone and absolutely killer technique,” Vancouver Province music critic Renee Doruyter has written of a performance by Scott, who has appeared on Jazzbeat, Westcoast Performance, and the CBC’s Hot Air several times. She was selected to be featured on four separate CDs produced by the CBC, and has performed alongside such jazz luminaries as Tommy Banks, Don Thompson, Kenny Wheeler, Skywalk and Hugh Fraser.
Scott has recorded her own self-produced CD, Interactive, collaborated on many other recording and performance projects in Canada and the US, and performed in many new music and theatre productions.
Scott will be joined onstage at VIU by Ken Lister, bass; Ian Sinclair, piano; and Hans Verhoeven, drums, all of whom instruct in VIU’s Jazz program.
Tickets, available at the door, are $10 general admission, $5 for students, and free for Music students.
“I think Jennifer is one of the best ‘scat’ singers I’ve ever heard – she sings every song with passion,” says Jazz program chair Bryan Stovell, adding that Scott will deliver a free clinic for students and the public on Feb. 18 at 12:30 pm in the Choral Room.
