April 13, 2015 - 10:00am
A public exhibition of work by graduating students in Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) Graphic Design program on Friday, April 17 will showcase the unique approaches students have taken to various design challenges.
‘Synapse’ is the title of the exhibition, opening at 5 pm in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre at 101 Gordon Street, Nanaimo. The students titled their show to reflect how a synapse – a junction between two nerve cells that transfers critical information – mirrors the creative process of graphic designers.
The Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design program represents four years of intense work by the graduating students, says Patrick Foster, a professor in the program.
“Their display panels will show the results of their senior thesis projects, along with a selection of their best work from other courses,” Foster says. “It’s a huge achievement for them all, and this will be the night to celebrate all their efforts.”
Admission to Synapse is free, and includes the opportunity to take in a presentation by keynote speaker and design industry professional Matt Salik, owner of Bully Design Co.
