VIU Donors Pen Inspiring Messages to Students at Exam Time

Students at Vancouver Island University (VIU) are wrapping up their academic studies for the year and focusing on their final exams. Many VIU students are completing programs of study that will qualify them for degrees, certificates and diplomas to be awarded at Convocation ceremonies in June.

Students working hard to complete their studies and excel at exams have the full support of so many people, from family and friends to fellow students, faculty, staff and alumni.

VIU donors – those individuals who have supported the University’s scholarships, programs, bursaries and activities – were asked to provide a quick note to students who are studying for final exams. Below is a selection of messages donors wrote for VIU students, taken from handwritten notes on display in VIU’s Welcome Centre.

• You are limited only by your energy and imagination.

• Do not give up your dreams. Remember the past but we need to move forward into the future. Take a look at your life, the things you like and the things you don’t like about your current reality. Do you want to change your entire life? Sometimes we feel stuck and we just need a little shift in perspective to begin to change our reality in to something we are…Excited to Experience.




• There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs




• Congratulations! Trust that your journey will take you down roads you never imagined were possible. Enjoy the Journey!




• You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as a ticket to the good life, let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world!




• The only person you will ever be in charge of is you…So take charge of you and create the life you can imagine.




• Have no fear you, are almost done. Take your time, relax and complete your mission!  Good work!




• Don’t look back. You’re not going that way!




• Life is full of opportunities. Work hard and be open to them.




• Dear student:  You have come along in your studies, spent long hours and probably lots of stress when you are assigned five deadlines for the same day! Now you are almost finished, you are almost done. Look at your success so far and your future. Good work. Keep it up!
