Spend an evening with international journalist Gwynne Dyer

International journalist and military analyst Gwynne Dyer will explore the relationships and politics linking the United States to China and examine the origins of the "terrorist threat" at two public lectures in Nanaimo and Qualicum Beach this month.

Dyer, who has worked as a freelance journalist, columnist, writer, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs for more than 20 years, will speak at Malaspina University-College Theatre in Nanaimo on Sunday, November 20 and at Qualicum Civic Centre Tuesday, November 22, 2005. Both lectures take place at 7 pm.

Dyer believes that since September, 2001, the whole global agenda seems to have been hijacked by terrorism – and yet it can be argued that the actual terrorist threat is very small. "So why do we hear so much about the terrorist threat – and what is the United States really up to?" he asks.

In Dyer's opinion, the United States, under the present administration, is committed to sidelining the United Nations, undermining international law and remilitarizing the planet. We are in trouble, but not because of terrorism.

Born in Newfoundland, Dyer earned degrees at Canadian, American and British universities, finishing with a Ph.D. in Military and Middle Eastern History from the University of London. His twice-weekly column on international affairs is published by 150 newspapers in some 35 countries.
