Malaspina Culinary Arts students cleaned up at another prestigious cooking competition, bringing home gold, silver and bronze medals.
Student Kathy Jerritt received grand gold - the best in the show - while Jules Delorme received silver and Lorna Walde, bronze. The students competed in a "hot" competition at B.C. Place Stadium last week.
"They had half an hour to produce two identical plates with a specific ingredient," explained Chef Debbie Shore, Acting Coordinator of Malaspina’s Culinary Arts program. "The special ingredient was boneless milk-fed veal loin. The students are judged for how tidy they work, how the food tastes and looks, and technical difficulty of the dish."
Shore said there were 24 competitors in Culinary school division. All three Malaspina students graduate from the program next week. Jerritt has landed a job at a high-end fishing resort on the west coast. Walde has accepted a position at the Wickininish Inn in Tofino while Delorme has a lead on a job with famous chef Rod Butters at Fresco’s restaurant in Kelowna.
