Parents are invited to kick off the holiday season and have "a gooey good time" with their kids.
A special workshop will be held at Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo on Saturday, December 3, where children and parents can roll up their sleeves and decorate a gingerbread house.
"Parents and children will take home their finished product and each child will receive a Malaspina University-College certificate, noting mastery of gingerbread house building," explained Bill Clay, pastry instructor in the Culinary Arts department.
The workshop will be held from 9:45 am to noon in Malaspina’s teaching kitchen, and afterwards children and parents are invited to take part in the Festival of Trees Family Day in the upper cafeteria.
Activities will include face painting, cookie decorating, a Teddy bear clinic, arts and crafts, and more. High school and community bands will provide non-stop entertainment, and there will be plenty of time to view the beautiful display of Christmas trees, lights and decorations.
The fee for the gingerbread workshop is $45 plus a $15 lab fee (per child and adult). To register, call Malaspina’s Centre for Continuing Studies at 1-866-734-6252. Admission to Family Day is by donation.
The Festival of Trees is an annual fundraiser for the Malaspina Foundation. Proceeds will support student scholarships, awards and bursaries. For a complete schedule of Festival of Trees events, check the website at www.viu.ca/festival or call 740-6258.
