Are you an effective leader?

Malaspina University-College is offering a series of courses through the new Institute for Community Leadership and Innovation to help people discover their leadership potential and improve skills.

"This program was developed in response to the ongoing professional development needs of people working in the community," said Cheryl Dill, Program Coordinator for Malaspina’s Centre for Continuing Studies.

"The courses will be of interest to new and experienced leaders in community groups, non-profit organizations, businesses, advisory groups and boards of directors, employers, educators, local government and First Nations organizations and anyone interested in recognizing their own leadership potential."

Courses will help participants communicate more effectively, inspire action for change and achieve goals.

The first course, The Heart of Coaching, is offered in two sessions on May 6 and 7. Instructor Thomi Glover, a certified coach and leadership facilitator, will teach practical skills to help participants create the personal and work life they want.

Next in line is the 10-session credit course from May 30 to June 10 called Fostering Leadership Development, which will provide individuals or teams with practical leadership skills to build and sustain effective leadership in dynamic learning environments.

Professional Project Management: Laying the Foundation is offered from July 4 to 6. Students will gain practical experience in proven project management techniques and discover valuable, flexible tools that can be applied immediately to any workplace or community based project.

Finally, a four-session course called Appreciative Inquiry Facilitators Training will be offered from August 29 to September 1. This course is an effective, collaborative approach in leading rapid, sustainable and transformative change.

All courses will be held at Malaspina University-College’s Nanaimo campus. For further information or to register for any of the leadership courses offered through Malaspina's Institute for Community Leadership and Innovation call 1-866-734-6252 or (250) 740-6160.
